Kerrie Smith is an accomplished dance educator, examiner, and mentor whose career spans more than 25 years across dance, primary, vocational, and tertiary education. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education (Primary), a Diploma of Dance Education (Higher Education), and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Kerrie also has professional experience teaching in primary schools and is recognised for her ability to combine evidence-based educational practice with artistic excellence.

Academically, Kerrie was named to the Vice-Chancellor’s List and achieved full marks in her final university practicum placement, reflecting her commitment to educational excellence and lifelong learning.

Her dance training was undertaken under the guidance of renowned teachers Hilary Kaplan and Archibald McKenzie, achieving Advanced 2 in Classical Ballet, and she also trained extensively in Flamenco through the Spanish Dance Society.

Kerrie is a Registered Teacher and Examiner with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), delivering examinations and masterclasses throughout Australia and internationally. She has taught in numerous capacities for the RAD, including leading competition classes for the Halliday Awards and Advanced 1 Bursary semi-finals and finals. She has also mentored trainee dance teachers undertaking the RAD's Certificate in Dance Teaching Studies and Postgraduate Diploma programmes, supporting the development of future dance educators.

Currently teaching at NAISDA Dance College, Kerrie contributes to both teaching and assessment design, drawing on her expertise in classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, and Spanish dance to support emerging artists. Her work reflects a strong commitment to culturally responsive, student-centred learning and excellence in dance education.

Kerrie’s choreography has featured in the opera productions Carmen and The Magic Flute. Her students have achieved outstanding results at major competitions, including multiple first-place awards at the Sydney Eisteddfod, and many have gone on to successful national and international dance careers.

Passionate about nurturing both artistry and discipline, Kerrie is dedicated to fostering intrinsic motivation, technical excellence, and a lifelong appreciation of dance. She has also contributed to wider industry discussions through appearances on ABC Radio, where she discussed the impact of COVID-19 on dance education and training.
